I am a Teacher. Throughout my educational career, I have been a member of many fantastic classrooms. My teachers were my guides through a vast array of topics. Although each had their own style, they all had traits shared in common. They had a deep-seeded passion for education and cared about their students. They collaborated to ensure that the schools is the best it can be. I find inspiration from my past teachers, and intend to build onto their legacy. Every day, through passion, empathy, and collaboration I will do my best to be the best teacher I can be. It is in my experience that students learn better in an environment in which they feel welcomed, safe, and challenged by the material. The goal of my classroom is to not only create such a classroom, but to constantly be building and changing it to be the best. I will be constantly add to my classroom and curriculum to ensure that every student feels welcome, and excited to learn.
I am a Teacher of the Social Studies. My favorite subjects have always been in the area of social studies. History - both throughout our country and the world, Geography, Economics, and Government have opened me to be a better human being, but to also truly understand the context in which we all exist. I am ecstatic to experience the social studies with my students, to broaden their horizons as well as mine. I use the word “experience” because that is what my class will be - an experience. Through many different sources, I will make history interactive. Students will learn to be critical thinkers, historians, archeologists, geographers, economists, psychologists, and citizens. They will discover our world through lenses they have yet to discover. They will become economic and governmental experts in my classroom. Through a wide variety of interactive experiences, learners will expand their understanding of the social studies.
I am a Teacher of the Social Studies who wants to change the world. As educators, we are standing on the shoulders of giants. Through my education, I have learned to become a well-informed citizen. My goal is to instill what I am learning onto my students. In my classroom, students will both learn about the social studies, but also discover the value of the social studies, and the doors education opens. By being good historians, geographers, and economists, students will grow into adults that engage in their civic duty to make the world a better place. They will have the resources to become experts in current events, to know how our political system works, and how to be good neighbors to one another. My students will all enter the workforce in many ways, some will go to college, some will go into different trades. But every student will walk out of the classroom with the understanding of what it means to be a good citizen. Every student will walk out knowing more about the world than what they did walking into my classroom, and will have the curiosity to learn more and make a difference in our ever-changing world.
